Why The Hippie Theologian | The Rev. Nicole Foster

Y’all. After all I have been through in the Church…It is time to just be me.

What does that mean? My name is Nicole Foster and I’m an Anglican minister who has struggled with my fair share of institutionalism: An institutionalism that is steeped in 1950s patriarchy; An institutionalism still trying to inject the world with colonial christianity; An institutionalism that seeks to quiet the bold, weaken the prophetic heart and mind, and copy and paste robots into leadership, whom would never make waves for righteous change both in and outside the church. I had to deconstruct from these false idealisms. So I found myself in an Ezekiel 16:6 situation which states,

And when I passed by you and saw you wallowing in your blood, I said to you in your blood, ‘Live!’ I said to you in your blood, ‘Live!’

The King of the Kings stopped by and rescued me as it concerned my self-perception and how I thought God perceived me.

I love the Old Testament and prefer studying and preach from it. As a matter of fact, my doctoral work is in Preaching from the Old Testament (which you’ll witness on this site). I like to study Hebrew and text criticism. I like to hike and camp. I love to swim in lakes and in the ocean. I like sustainable cooking and eating. I have a heart for social justice and quickly speak up at injustices when I readily see them. And…(drumroll) I make organic bath and body products. And you know what? God created me this way. My acceptance of this is my reconstruction.

While I deeply care about theological historicity and orthodoxy, I’m not a proponent of extreme theological ideologies; other than that there is an active and living God that rules the universe, who has provided the ultimate sacrifice in Jesus, and who moves on behalf of God’s people.

This is the reason for The Hippie Theologian: for me to be my hippie-self and for you to be your hippie-self. It is about all of the above-inviting everyone to the table, to be who God had created you to be, as family members who have been grafted in by the adoption of God through the death and resurrection of the Risen Lord.

If you are a Christian with qualms; welcome. If you are agnostic or atheist; welcome. If you are Muslim, Hindu, or Jewish; welcome. If you are happy or heartbroken; welcome. While we ever-exalt the Almighty, enjoy the community spiritual road trip that is The Hippie Theologian.

Peace and Love, ❤️💛💚

What is the origin of the Hebrew Israelite people? A friend stated the language same first. Were Adam and Eve Hebrew?
